Among The Greatest Cities In The World

"Cities where is best to live" is a topic explored consistently from year to year by different organizations preparing charts carefully developed to tell us then who are the most "desirable" cities of the world, the where life is most likely to be pleasant, prosperous and rewarding. Here are three of them, including the most popular, with some organizations established tradition in this field. Guess what cities are found in the Top 10 in all three rankings?

Apparently only superficial, the rankings are, in fact, based on a lot of strict criteria, which take into account many factors that determine human satisfaction in life. Obviously, each organization has its own set of judging habitability factors on which various kinds of cities, this leads to differences between the different rankings, which makes things even more interesting. The order of the podium also be changed from one year to another and is interesting to watch evolve over time and how some cities. None of these rankings is perfect goal - after all, are made of people and people are subjective, you make them - and some were even criticized for being biased in some aspects, but each brings a perspective interesting, and taken together, give a fairly clear idea of the places in the world where is best to live, according to most people.
Probably the best known such ranking is compiled by theEconomist Intelligence Unit's (EIU), which issues an annual report called the Global Liveability Report. Edition in 2012, the most recent, compares 140 cities based on 30 indicators grouped in five categories:
• Stability
• quality of care
• Culture and Environment
• Education
• Infrastructure
The extent to which aspects of each category meeting the requirements of residents is assessed on a scale from 1 to 100, 1 represents an unacceptable, intolerable and 100 is considered ideal level.
Were not taken into account, however, factors such as climate - a factor which many take into account when it comes to relocate or remain in a particular city - and the cost of living. (A determining factor in choosing where to live, where the question of choice). How does such rankings compiled?

 1. Melbourne, Australia
 2. Vienna, Austria
 3. Vancouver, Canada
 4. Toronto, Canada
 5. Adelaide, Australia
 6. Calgary, Canada
 7. Sydney, Australia
 8. Helsinki, Finland
 9. Perth, Australia
10. Auckland, New Zealand

In the top 10, Australia leads the way, with 4 of the 10 seats, while Canada takes 3 of the seats, while across Europe have been found only 2 towns worthy of top 10. (It's okay, we - we Europeans, that is - much better in other tables).
Moreover, objectivity report from the Economist Intelligence Unit has been questioned, prestigious New York Times openly criticizing the organization for "classification Anglophone" them and saying it's clear that Anglophone EIU reckons as a basic criterion for inclusion among the best cities in which to live, referring to the fact that 8 of the 10 cities mentioned above are Anglophone.

I bet you want to know how is Romania in the ranking. Well, we have one city on the list of 140, namely Bucharest, in 2012 it ranked 84, between two Chinese cities, Guangzhou (83) and Dalian (85).
A second ranking cities strung "offer" the most alluring in the conditions of life is developed by U.S. firm Mercer consulting and financial services.
It shall annually report called Quality of Living Survey of 221 cities comparing results based on 30 criteria. New York City is taken as reference, allocating him a score of 100 points, and other cities are evaluated in comparison with him. The most important criteria include the safety, education, hygiene, health and performance of public transport, culture, environment, recreation opportunities, economic and political stability.

Mercer report is used by many companies to decide where to open new production facilities or administrative offices that provide employee wages.
Rankings for 2012 looks like this:
 1. Vienna, Austria
 2. Zurich, Switzerland
 3. Auckland, New Zealand
 4. Munich, Germany
 5. Vancouver, Canada
 6. Düsseldorf, Germany
 7. Frankfurt, Germany
 8. Geneva, Switzerland
 9. Copenhagen, Denmark
10. Equality: Bern (Switzerland) and Sydney (Australia).

As noted, ranking spectacular lead Europe: Germany and Switzerland each have three representatives in the top, which are added two other European capitals Brand (Vienna and Copenhagen), while the Anglophone world is more poorly represented by 3 of the 11 cities that make up the Top 10.

In the previous report (2011), Germany and Switzerland "supplied the" three cities in the top 10, cities in Canada and New Zealand filling the rest of the stack. Comparing the charts for several years, there is a "rising in rank" of cities in South and East Asia (especially in India and China), the Middle East and Eastern Europe. And so far from being just entertainment, like tables provide an overview of global trends, the changing power poles - in summary, the walking world.
A third interesting ranking is compiled since 2007 by Monoclemagazine, a Canadian magazine which aims to provide its readers with a global perspective on world affairs, politics, culture, design and fashion.
Among the themes to be found and the cities offering the highest quality of life for their inhabitants, magazine publishing annually a list of them - Monocle's Most Livable Cities Index - compiled based on several criteria: personal safety, transport possibilities international climate and the quality of architecture and urban design, quality of the natural environment and access to nature, the conditions for doing business and developing proactive policies, tolerance and quality of medical care for.
What are cities occupying the top 10 places in the ranking, for 2012?

 1. Zurich, Switzerland
 2. Helsinki, Finland
 3. Copenhagen, Denmark
 4. Vienna, Austria
 5. Munich, Germany
 6. Melbourne, Australia
 7. Tokyo, Japan
 8. Sydney, Australia
 9. Auckland, New Zealand
10. Stockholm, Sweden

This ranking shows some interesting features from the other two: contains, as you see, and a Japanese city, Tokyo, and the growing importance of this region metropolis of the world is evidenced by the fact that 11 and 12 are occupied places all Japanese cities: Kyoto (11) and Fukuoka (12).
Europe shines: with the 6 European cities mentioned in the top 25 are also found Paris (14), Hamburg (16) Berlin (18), Madrid (20) Barcelona (21) and Geneva (25).

What you say, Europe is better, if we go by these tables, the old continent has wonderful cities, it is so nice to live and do business profitably. However we can not observe how well cities are the rankings of Australia and especially Auckland, the largest city of New Zealand (1.4 million, almost a third of the population), a many cultures metropolis, vibrant, booming, which is found in all three Tops 10. Canada also seems to be a country where people like to live their life, Vancouver city appears to be particularly attractive, since it retains several years 3rd place on the list of the world's great cities, where worth living, according to rankings compiled by EIU.
With all subjectivity and their inevitable limitations, those rankings, in addition to their practical interest for economic analysts and policy, offers a snapshot of how people today perceive the world today and how to imagine a better world. From such examples of names and numbers (at first some dry list) arising aspirations, fears and desires - in fact, their dream of an ideal city.
